Just a good stretch of the legs from the Marriott Beach Club is The Strip on the beach along Frigate Bay, and it is an experience. The Strip is ground zero “limin’,” the Kittitian version of relaxing, having fun, and not worrying about anything.

The Strip is lined with beach bars, some with live entertainment, all owned and operated by local folks, and most made of plywood held together with duct tape and hope. The most famous attraction — the fire dancer at Mr X’s Shiggity Shack — has been doused since COVID made crowds inadvisable, but he’ll be rekindled by popular demand, no doubt.

Most or all of the bars serve food as well as drinks. When the food is good it is very, very good, and when it is bad it is … best to stick to bottled drinks. Boozie’s is one of the very, very good places, so look for their sign.
